How to Improve Your Practice-From-Home Space
With a new school year approaching under extraordinary circumstances, now more than ever, it’s important to make the space where you’re going to be practicing your instrument as harmonious (pun intended) as possible. Here are a few tips on how to keep the motivation going and get the creative juices flowing!
1. PLANTS
Plants are a quick and inexpensive way to freshen up your space. Plants like peace lilies, english ivy, and aloe are actually known to purify the air. With many of us staying at home more, clean air is definitely something to be happy about!
2. AROMATHERAPY
Scent is a great way to re-center when taking a break from practicing. Taking a few deep breaths of essential oils really help to stay in the present moment. Personally, I love keep dried lavender in the studio, not only because of its divine smell, but also because it’s pretty! Sweet orange essential oil is my go to when I need a bit of a mood-boost. Candles are also a great way to make your space calm and smell delicious! For those that are sensitive to scented candles, unscented candles create the same calming atmosphere as scented ones do.
3. A SMILE-INDUCING FOCAL POINT
Sometimes, you just need something to look at that’s NOT your music. My students know that I am a sucker for cute stuffed animals, especially if they’re elephants. I love this sequined elephant because it’s not only super cute, but it also keeps your brain active when you trace over the reversible sequins!
I hope you enjoyed these tips for making your practice space calming and inviting! What else do you like to have nearby when you’re practicing from home? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
Happy practicing!
